Beyond the loud voice and massive drum beat, hip-hop music is deeply rooted in the traditions of the African Griot (gree-oh) societies. The griots are not only story tellers and musicians, but keepers and teachers of history and tradition.
In hip-hop as in the Griot societies, rhythm, poetry and music are not just a means of expression but also a way to teach and learn.
In this course we will look at the positive side of the popular culture, hip-hop and learning.
You will learn and practice these skills; listening, critical thinking, writing an opinion, and using technology to learn in new ways.
Ian de Souza developed and delivered this course for AlphaPlus in 2007.
